Harry Herington

Harry Herington is Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of NIC.  NIC is the nation’s largest provider of eGovernment services and builds official websites and online solutions for 2,900 state and local agencies that service more then 69 million people in the United States.

Herington has 24 years of government-sector experience, and joined NIC in 1995 to grow the portal business by establishing the company’s national presence and its portfolio of online services.  In February 2008, he was named Chief Executive Officer of NIC and was elected Chairman of the Board in May 2008.  He also serves on the Board of Connected Nation, a national non-profit dedicated to the acceleration of broadband access to underserved communities across the country. 

Herington started his public service career in law enforcement as a police officer and homicide detective.  Upon completion of law school, he became Associate General Counsel for the League of Kansas Municipalities where he provided both legal advice and legislative support to cities and counties across the state.

He holds a B.A. from Wichita State University and a J.D. from the University of Kansas.
